Welcome to Peru: Get ready to embark on a breathtaking adventure through the heart of Peru, a land rich in history, culture, and natural wonder. From there, we travel to the majestic Andes and the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, a city alive with colorful traditions and historic treasures.

We’ll explore the awe-inspiring Sacred Valley, home to traditional villages, terraced landscapes, and the gateway to the legendary Machu Picchu. Finally, our journey concludes in the lush Amazon rainforest near Puerto Maldonado, where the wonders of nature await—from exotic wildlife to serene river excursions.

This tour offers a perfect balance of history, culture, adventure, and nature. Whether you’re wandering ancient ruins, sampling Peruvian delicacies, or listening to the sounds of the jungle, each stop offers a unique and unforgettable experience.

Day One

OVERNIGHT: LIMA

Hola y bienvenido! Afternoon to explore the colorful neighborhood around the hotel and tour introduction meeting. Welcome dinner with the group to get to know each other.

Day Two

OVERNIGHT: LIMA

Today we will embark on a walking tour of a few of the vibrant neighborhoods Lima has to offer. The Main Square serves as the focal point: a beautiful colonial square, surrounded by emblematic buildings such as the Government Palace, the Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace. We will have the opportunity to explore one of the most iconic ecclesiastical spaces and the most remarkable colonial complex in Lima, the San Francisco Convent, We will also venture into its mysterious and captivating catacombs, offering a unique insight into colonial Lima.

Next, a journey full of art, culture, and flavor awaits us in Lima’s bohemian neighborhood par excellence: Barranco. Marvel at their colonial legacy and its old houses influenced by the Gothic style. We will also stop at the Bridge of Sighs or ‘Puente de los Suspiros’, one of the most important attractions of the district, inspiring unique legends as well as motivating songs and poems.

Day Three

OVERNIGHT: CUSCO

This morning, say good-bye to Lima, and fly to Cusco, a city in which you will learn how the Andean and Spanish cultures, as well as the ways of the past and the present, coexist in harmony. Get settled into your hotel and later have dinner with your group.

Day Four

OVERNIGHT: CUSCO

Today we will gather for a walking tour starting in the center of the city to explore the hundreds of merchant stands in the San Pedro market, the oldest market in the city, designed in 1925. Next we will visit the Koricancha temple, which was a center for worship of the Sun during the Inca empire and later was a convent during the evangelization process. To further appreciate the greatness of the Incas, we will ascend to the monumental fortress of Sacsayhuaman with its enormous carved stone walls, an example of Inca military architecture. We will tour the archaeological center of Kenko, a ceremonial place where the sun, the moon, and the stars were worshiped. Then a visit to the Cathedral, the most important temple in the city, built by the Spanish on top of the palace of the Inca Huiracoha.

You will also learn about Andean cuisine through a gastronomic tour and cooking class, culminating in enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Day Five

OVERNIGHT: SACRED VALLEY

Today, we will learn about the tradition and history of the Sacred Valley, the traces left by its ancient inhabitants, and the culture of its current towns. We will stop at the Taray viewpoint, 3,200 meters above sea level, from where we have a stunning panoramic view of the valley. We will then explore the archaeological complex of Pisac, where we will see how advanced it was for its time, both for its urban planning and for the variety of environments dedicated to religious ceremonies and temples. We will enjoy a traditional lunch in Pisac town, characterized by its quiet streets and market featuring its proud heritage of textile arts and handicrafts. The tour continues on to Ollantaytambo, an ancient imposing fortress with the original Inca urban design, located on a mountain with a view of the town, indicating the power of the Incas. A train ride to your hotel in Aguas Calientes will complete the journey of the day.

Day Six

OVERNIGHT: SACRED VALLEY

Today is the day for one of the most anticipated sites: Machu Picchu. Our adventure will begin aboard the train to Aguas Calientes, enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings along the way, with impressive views of majestic mountains, the Vilcanota river and small towns of the Peruvian Andes. After a short bus ride from Aguas Calientes we will find ourselves in front of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. From there, we will have plenty of time to explore the ancient ruins, learning all about the history and mysteries that this mystical and impressive place holds. When we have had our fill, we will return to Aguas Calientes and have free time for lunch and exploring the town before boarding our return train.

Day Seven

OVERNIGHT: SACRED VALLEY

Today is dedicated to exploring three jewels of the Sacred Valley of the Incas: Maras, Moray and Misminay. From the top, we will have stunning panoramic views of the ancient Maras salt mines, where the coveted Maras salt – one of the finest in the world – is collected. We will then visit the Moray archaeological site, which resembles a natural amphitheater. Its enormous concentric terraces and the variety of microclimates they created allowed the growth of a variety of crops. Next, we will be welcomed to the traditional community of Misminay, where we get to know the traditional Andean lifestyle up close, enjoying the music, dances, and participate in daily activities like planting, harvesting, and textile work.

Day Eight

OVERNIGHT: PUERTO MALDONADO

After breakfast, take a flight to Puerto Maldonado, famously known as the Capital of Biodiversity, and embark on your Amazon adventure. A boat ride along the clay-colored waters of the Madre de Dios River brings you to our private eco-reserve cabanas, then head to the palm-thatched dining room for a delicious buffet lunch. Afterward, delve into the rainforest on foot, strolling along the property’s nature paths, near the protected Tambopata National Reserve and situated on the site of a former cacao and rubber plantation, surrounded by rainforest teeming with exotic wildlife and vibrant tropical plants. At dusk, witness the magical transition of the rainforest as it shifts from day to night on a guided Twilight River boat ride. Keep an eye out for caimans and other nocturnal creatures along the riverbanks and marvel at the sparkling stars of the southern hemisphere.

Day Nine

OVERNIGHT: PUERTO MALDONADO

Start with an early morning stroll along a scenic rainforest trail to reach Lake Sandoval, a serene oxbow lake nestled within the protected Tambopata National Reserve. Board a traditional wooden dugout canoe to paddle quietly along a
gentle stream that opens onto the lake, framed by picturesque palm trees, and attempt to spot the diverse wildlife, including the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles, black caimans, and countless bird species.

After lunch back at the hotel, embark on the thrilling Canopy Walkway adventure, which features 344 meters of suspension bridges connecting eight treetop observation platforms. Suspended high above the forest floor, this experience offers unparalleled views of the rainforest’s vast expanse. This evening, choose to explore the forest further with the Hidden Forest night excursion or, alternatively, opt for a relaxing session at a tranquil spa retreat nestled in the heart of the rainforest. Afterwards we will have our final dinner together.

Day Ten

TOUR ENDS

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and take the motorized wooden boat back down the river to the airport. Bid farewell to your group and good luck with your further adventures. Adios!

I have been visiting friends and showing them my photos from the Piemonte tour. I was telling them how great it was to become immersed in this area and see things you would not normally have the opportunity to do or know about. Having a caring and inquisitive guide who delights in sharing where she lives brings so much to the experience. Go visit Piemonte with Lisa- you will have such an amazing time and fond memories to share and relish!

I have had the joy of traveling with Adventures with Sarah many times, from Thailand, to Turkey, and many places in between. I choose to book with AWS because I can rely on a tour that is paced well, varied in activities, with great food and even greater guides. As a frequent traveler to Europe, I really enjoy AWS tours due to a small group size and the opportunity to go in depth into a region and really experience the culture of the area I’m visiting. And every time, with every group, I meet fellow travelers who are now friends. Adventures with Sarah is a tour company that I would recommend without hesitation. In fact, I have 3 tours booked for this year!

Fantastic look at more "out of the way" spots and wonderful experiences of food and wine. No crowds, just the Sicilian countryside and lovely towns. Traveling in April was fantastic with all the wildflowers. And walking on Mama Etna's shoulders was a highlight!

Barbara B.Sicily Pleasures tour

It really was a wonderful trip. This was our first group trip, and the size was just right. We all got along well which was a bonus. Everything was smooth, and Sarah had picked out some really wonderful things for us to do. I felt like we were getting "sneak peeks" of special things regular tourists don't get to do. We were willing participants for her to try out new things on this trip. The hotels were lovely, and the wine lunches perfect! There was a good balance of planned activities and free time which I appreciated. I will definitely be looking for more trips to go on with Adventures with Sarah!

Leslie P.Sicily Pleasures tour

Good accommodations in the heart of all important areas. Food experience was excellent with incentive to try new foods. Sarah is very personable and has each tour member's concerns and needs in mind. Love the small groups.

Jen R.Dalmatian Staycation tour

My husband and I had a great time touring Dalmatia with Sarah and the local guides that joined us. A favorite activity was sailing on a traditional sail boat from the island of Vis. Lovely group of travelers and many memories made!

Food and wine blitz in beautiful areas of Slovenia and Croatia. You will appreciate it most if you are a true wine lover. Meetings with young enthusiastic, creative winemakers were the highlight.

What a perfect way to get back into European travel. It was obvious from the start that Trish had put her heart and soul into the planning of the Hidden Paris tour. It was a great mix of adventures and I throughly enjoyed my travel group, who became like family, and it was obvious to see why most had traveled with adventures with Sarah before, Our local guide, Julian, was excellent and it was fun finally getting to also meet Sarah and sons. Merci beaucoup, Trish for this great time and I hope to travel with you again in the future.

Leslie A.Paris Staycation tour

A thoroughly enjoyable trip. George, our leader, was super-knowledgeable, helpful, energetic, and fun. His knowledge of people and places gave us experiences we couldn't have duplicated on our own. The itinerary was great - I thought the pace was good and we had a variety of experiences. The only thing I didn't like was that the weather in late April was rather chilly and often wet, more so than I expected. However, traveling later in the spring would have meant missing Orthodox Easter, which was the highlight of the trip for me. We spent it in a rural village, and participating in the villagers' traditions was a rare privilege that I'll never forget. So take an umbrella and some warm clothes and prepare for a special experience. Maybe you'll get the sunshine that we mostly didn't get!

Melissa M.Romania tour

Our guide Susanna was both professional and thoughtful. She cared for our health and happiness! I had some health issues and was treated with kindness and help! Our accommodations were both comfortable and clean. The bus driver was fearless and professional. I will travel with Susanna again!

Melva O.Sicily Pleasures tour

This was a wonderful trip! Susanna was such a wonderful tour guide, thoughtful, funny, informative. I can’t imagine a better guide for this trip! Our accommodations were wonderful as were all the varied activities and dining experiences. I enjoyed the other travelers in our group and felt as if we were family. I have made new friends that I will keep in touch with. Thank you!

Anne B.Sicily Pleasures tour

We had a wonderful tour with our guide Susanna and fellow travelers. The tour was well planned out touching on most all the main destinations in Sicily. Susanna was super well organized, kind and considerate and a lot of fun to travel with. She was a great communicator before, during and after the tour and was helpful with day to day needs like finding laundry service, restaurants and transport to the airport. The local guides, meals, accommodations, etc were all top notch. We had a great small group of 7 travelers that all got on very well. The spacious van we used for traveling was very comfortable and the driver Giuseppe was highly skilled at driving the chaotic streets in Sicily’s cities and towns. We highly recommend booking a tour with Adventures with Sarah and especially with Susanna Perrucchini!!

Randal D.Sicily Highlights tour

In short, we will travel with AWS again and would highly recommend them! Oh!! We also felt that we received far more in value and experience than the price for the tour.
