ABOUT

SARAH

Sarah Murdoch is a professional tour guide, travel writer, artist and occasional architect. Beginning her adventures as a kid in 1985, she’s been exploring regularly since the travel bug bit her while studying in Italy in 1995. With a BA in architecture from the University of Washington, she worked as an architect before abandoning the drafting board for the allure of the open road.

Sarah has been guiding tours and working as a travel journalist for 22 years, formerly with Rick Steves, having co-authored the guidebook “Rick Steves Sicily.” Her popular packing lecture, “Packing Light and Right” has helped thousands of travelers lighten their bags and enjoy their travels more. In April, 2020, she founded The Guide Collective, a collaborative travel magazine and virtual tour hub. Through Adventures with Sarah, she now runs her own small group tours in Italy and guides in more exotic places with Imprint Tours.

She spends about 4 months per year abroad, guiding tours, working on guidebooks and drinking fine wine. While her heart is firmly in Italy and Sicily, she calls Seattle home and is mom to her favorite travel partners, Lucca and Nicola.

In her spare time she lectures on travel topics, reads, knits, sews her travel wardrobe, writes, paints, gardens, cooks and dreams of her next adventure. Her art can be purchased on Etsy.

For the latest on her whereabouts and adventures, subscribe to this blog and follow her on Instagram,  Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter to see what exotic locale she’s exploring.

You can support Sarah and her work both here and with Guide Collective by becoming a patron. More info HERE.
