Naples & Amalfi Coast October 2025

NAPLES & AMALFI COAST

October 12-20, 2025 with Lisa Anderson

$3995 per person, Double Occupancy, $4495 Single Occupancy

Naples is a city that can easily intimidate with its “too muchness” of noise, crowds, and pasta-fueled chaos. However, with some time and some inside knowledge, Naples reveals its true self–a gorgeous, artistic, boldly individual city that will romance and inspire.

During our Naples & Amalfi Coast week together, we will explore the treasures of the city and region–Capodimonte and National Archeological museums, breathtaking archeological sites, and more. We will learn to sling a pizza like a pro and marvel at the palace of Caserta, which once rivaled Versailles in opulence.

In this new version of our Naples Staycation, we’ve added a few days to relax and explore the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, sleeping in the lemon-scented beach town of Sorrento.

Day One

Overnight: Naples

Introduction to Napoli and Pizza

Our tour will begin in the late afternoon at a centrally located hotel in Napoli. After a brief orientation, we’ll take a walk around our neighbourhood to get a feel for the city before learning to make one of Napoli’s most famous of foods, pizza margherita, in a hands-on cooking class.

Day Two

Overnight: Naples

Fine Art and Christian Catacombs

A quick ride up hill will take us to Capodimonte Museum, home to one of the most important art collections in Italy, including works by Titian, Bruegel and Caravaggio. We’ll stroll through the amazing Capodimonte Park, hunting place of the royal Bourbons and enjoy one of the best views of the city on our way to the Catacombs of San Gennaro, a unique burial place that takes us down to the vast Naples underground and resting place of their patron saint.

Free evening and dinner on your own.

Day Three

Overnight: Naples

I Decumani

Our morning will begin with a guided tour of the Cappella di San Severo, a unique baroque jewel, where you will admire the Veiled Christ and learn about the story of the noble alchemist, Prince Raimondo di Sangro di San Severo.  We will also enjoy a tour of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale MANN which houses the most important collection of Roman artifacts in the world along with the Farnese sculpture collection. You have a free afternoon to find lunch and explore Naples on your own before we regroup this evening for dinner and concert.

Day Four

Overnight: Naples

I Campi Flegrei

Our morning will begin with a visit to Cuma, known as Kyme in the ancient world, it was the first Greek settlement on Campania’s mainland and the archeological ruins in Baiae give us a glimse the VIPs of ancient Rome who had extensive villas here.  With the help of a glass bottomed boat their secrets will be revealed.

Free evening and dinner on your own.

Day Five

Overnight: Naples

Naples Underground and La Sanità

During WWII, 360,000 Neopolitans escaped the Allied bombing by using the extensive sisterns from the hydraulic system that was begun under Greek rule in the 4th century BCE, expanded by the Romans, and used to provide the city with water until the beginning of the 20th century. After building up an appetite underground, we will surface and partake in some of the mouth-watering delights with a street food tour. Free evening and dinner on your own.

Day Six

Overnight: Sorrento

Caserta and Transfer to Sorrento

This morning we will take a short drive to the opulent Royal Palace of Caserta.  A Bourbon Residence, started in 1752 for King Charles VII, it was completed by his son Ferdinand IV.  We will have a chance to learn about this intriguing family as we enjoy a tour of the palace and stroll in the garden.

After our morning visit and lunch, we will make our way to Sorrento and check into our hotel before an introductory walk around town. Dinner on your own.

Day Seven

Overnight: Sorrento

Pompeii

Using the first train line ever built in Italy, the Circumvesuviana will take us to the base of Mount Vesuvius.  An active, sleeping volcano, it erupted in 79 AD and destroyed 4 roman cities: Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis and Stabiae.  We will visit the spectacular archaeological site of Pompei with a local expert this morning. After our morning tour, you will be free to explore more of Pompeii on your own before returning to Sorrento by train.

This evening, we will have a hands-on cooking class and dinner with our hostess Irma, who came in 4th place on Master Chef Italy.

Day Eight

Our grand finale will be enjoyed from a private boat as we explore the wonders of the Amalfi Coast. Bring your swimsuit, weather permitting, and your appetite to partake in a marvelous seafood lunch along the shore. Upon our return to Sorrento, we will go for an aperitivo to say arrivederci.

We had a wonderful time on our Naples Staycation. There was so much to see and do. The trip had a great pace and plenty (but not too much) time to go out on our own to explore. There is so much history and historical sites in the Naples area, it is overwhelming. Our tour guide Lisa, was great. She helped my husband and I navigate and plan for the more difficult physical parts of the trip. She handled our mess up on the rooms as an ultimate professional and had us neatly tucked into another hotel, before anyone could complain!! The local tour guides were very informational and had great suggestions for eating on our free evenings. Overall, I would say this was a great tour and we recommend it if you're interested in learning more about southern Italy.
