Sarah Murdoch is a professional tour guide, travel writer, artist and occasional architect. Beginning her world travel adventures as a kid in 1985, she's been traveling regularly since the travel bug bit her while studying in Italy in 1995. With a BA in architecture from the University of Washington, she worked as an architect before abandoning the drafting board for the allure of the open road.
Sarah has worked for Rick Steves since 2000 in a variety of jobs: as a guidebook writer and researcher, lecturer, tour diva, packing ninja and tour guide. These days she spends 4 months per year abroad, guiding tours, working on guidebooks and drinking fine wine. While technically both European and American, she calls Seattle home and is mom to two adorable boys.
Sarah guides tours for Rick Steves and is creating off-season tours on her own. If you are interested in taking a tour with Sarah, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org for her latest schedule.
In her spare time she lectures on travel topics, reads, knits, sews her travel wardrobe, writes, paints, gardens, cooks and dreams of her next adventure. Her art can be purchased on Etsy.
Teaching travel is Sarah Murdoch's passion and she enjoys speaking for groups large and small. You can find Sarah's popular class for Rick Steves on packing the perfect bag here. Sarah speaks often for public and private events. She can present slide lectures on a wide range of topics including art, architecture, history, Italian destinations and culture, and packing light.
