The Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, Carnevale masks, and darkened alleyways full of mystery. This is likely what you know about Venice. But what if Venice was a completely different place than you expect? In this StayCation exploring one of the world’s most mysterious and romantic cities, we will uncover the city that the locals know, and get to the heart of what it means to be Venetian.
The floating city shaped like a fish is divided into six districts, or sestiere. Each day, we will explore a district, seeing daily life in parts of the city that tourists rarely venture. Our activities will focus on learning about the lagoon, the artists of the city, and the truly surprising history that most tourists miss.
We have enjoyed our small groups so much that we will continue to keep numbers low and personal attention high.

Day One
Overnight: Venice
Welcome to Bella Venezia
In the late afternoon we meet in our centrally located hotel for a tour orientation. Then we will board a private water taxi for a joyride down the Grand Canal, finishing with a dinner of local Venetian specialties.
Day Two
Overnight: Venice
Sestiere Castello
In the morning we will be joined by a local guide to take us around the very local Castello district, and its bustling Via Garibaldi. We will take a peek at the famed Biennale grounds, and finish our walk on Piazza San Marco for more sightseeing. Our evening will start with a gondola ride (you really must) to the Rialto area where we will have a simple dinner at a baccaro.
Day Three
Overnight: Venice
Lagoon Tour
Today we will hop aboard a private boat and explore the islands of the lagoon, and learn about the islands that shaped the early days of Venice. We could tell you exactly what we have planned, but that would ruin the surprise! Lunch in a bucolic island setting.
Day Four
Overnight: Venice
Dorsoduro
Our focus today will be the elegant Dorsoduro neighborhood and modern art. We will check out the Peggy Guggenheim collection, then visit a gondola workshop and the Salute church, where the locals go to pray for the end of a plague.
Day Five
Overnight: Venice
From Fish to Art
Today we will explore the Rialto market area, then dive deeper into the backstreets to visit three fantastic museums that are often overlooked. We will start with the Frari church, and marvel over Titian, then we’ll see Scuola San Rocco, considered the Venetian Sistine Chapel. Our morning will finish with a visit to a perfectly preserved period home, Ca’ Rezzonico. If your thirst for art is not quenched yet, your guide will walk you over to the art gallery of Venice, the Accademia.
Day Six
Overnight: Venice
Cannaregio
Today we will explore the Jewish Ghetto of Venice, where the term ghetto was coined, having been a coin foundry in the past. In the evening, we will gather for our farewell dinner, soaking up our last magical night in this unique city.
Day 7
Tour Over After Breakfast
Your guide will be available this morning to help you with your further travel plans. Grazie e arrivederci Venezia!
Price: $2350 (Air not included). Single Supplement is $425. We welcome singles and can try to pair you with another single to room with, but the single supplement will be required if we can’t.
What’s included: 3 dinners and 2 lunches (wine included), 6 nights lodging in a clean, comfortable, and centrally located hotel. All admissions and fees for group activities. Transport within the tour and private guides, tips included.
Deposit Policy: A non-refundable deposit of $600 per person is due upon booking. If your plans change, you may transfer your deposit to any other tour that we offer.
Tour begins and ends in Venice. International airport there is VCE.
