FLORENCE

STAYCATION

$2750 Double / $3390 Single

Renaissance means “rebirth” and no city embodies the idea more than Firenze. Florence, the city of flowers, was the most important city of the 1500’s, filled with wealthy merchants hiring the best artists of the time— Michaelangelo, Leonardo DaVinci, Botticelli. This has left the city with one of the greatest cultural patrimonies in the world, and it waits for you to dig a bit below the typical visit and discover its depth.

Florence is a city built for a staycation, just as the English of the Grand Tour discovered, there is far too much to see for just a few days’ stay. While a visit to the Uffizi Gallery is required, the city itself is like an enormous diffused art museum. Each day, we will explore churches full of artworks, back alleys noisy with artisan workshops, and enotecas serving up some of the best wine that Italy has to offer. Our stay will also include some Tuscan wandering, with classic cypress tree vistas.

We have enjoyed our small groups so much that we will continue to keep numbers low and personal attention high. This tour will have a maximum of 16 guests.

Fantastic experience. The tour was exceptionally well organized and expertly led by Anna Piperato. Her knowledge of Italy, Florence, and art history and her engaging personality made the tour extremely enjoyable and enriching. She looked after the needs of the tour participants exceptionally well. The hotel was comfortable and well-located. The mix of activities was just right. The food tour of Florence markets was a distinct highlight. We highly recommend this tour.

Sicily is a culturally complex and geographically large and diverse place. It can easily fill 3 weeks. However, for many of us, 3 weeks is not possible. For a great way to get to know the three millennia of history that shaped this place, see the ancient remains of past cultures and how they are incorporated into modern day life, and experience the variety of foods brought by its many invaders, Adventures with Sarah's Sicily Highlights tour is the way to go. Sarah is passionate about Sicily and knows it intimately. In addition to her vast knowledge and experiences, she incorporates local guides who add their personal flare and love for the island. And the small tour group size helps single travelers, like me, feel part of the tour and not a third wheel.

Anna is a prize! She knows and shares so much about the local events, culture, and art. She and Sarah led us to fantastic viewing sites for the practices, the race itself, and other related events. The group were all good travelers and fine companions, and it was delightfully small. We have heard about (and seen videos of) the Palio for decades and it was a bucket list experience for us to be there. Even the weather stayed cool for us. Food and hotels were excellent. Thank you Sarah and Anna for making this trip possible and for teaching us so much about the local culture. Sarah, please keep finding special and unusual trips and events for us to enjoy! Regards, Ben and Linda Shuler.

Florence staycation was another wonderful experience with Sarah. The hotel was perfect. Who doesn't want to sleep in a medieval pallazzo! Yes. We participated in a few of the more obvious activities, but Sarah makes it happen as if we are at the front of the line. Add to that the things I would never expect to do, like a painting class, for example, and my time in Florence and surrounding areas has become a unique experience. And as always, amazing food and wine and treats. A well planned balance of group meals and activities with personal free time. To have Sarah as our guide is extra special. She has a wealth of knowledge to share, which brings so much meaning to what we see. (And I love stories!) Thank you Sarah for making my adventure even more than I imagined.
