Travel Shoes Spreadsheet

The Perfect Travel Shoe

I wouldn’t say that a travel shoe can make a trip, but they sure as heck can break a trip. I’ve been on the hunt for years to find the perfect travel shoe. It’s my business and I take it seriously. I asked my readers to suggest their favorite travel shoe and, wow, did I get a response. I looked at every suggestion. After more than 10 hours (no joke) of analysis, I’ve picked ones I thought made the cut for excellent comfort and at least a bit of style. To keep track of it, I’ve created the Great Travel Shoe Spreadsheet.

The Best and the Rest

You’ve seen my previous articles about my top picks and picks for foot problems, but what about the other shoes? The world is full of shoes, and the leftovers are worth a look. Shoes are a style question in the end, maybe you’ll find something on this spreadsheet that will work for you.

If you’d like to get a look at my travel shoe collection, with past and present wins and fails, I’ve done a YouTube video about that:

If you’re interested, my current travel shoes are Ugg Vevas (super cute wedge and comfy), Xero Z Trek trail sandals, and Nike Flywire. They are all fine picks.

Always feel free to comment and let me know about your favorites. I’ll add to the list.

I’d been looking for a pair of boots that were stylish enough to wear around town in Reykjavik, but could also stand up to a hike on a glacier, AND weren’t through-the-roof expensive. I think I found them here! Thank you for all the work you put into this list.

AWESOME – thank you! Any chance of getting the actual spreadsheet for filtering and sorting? I have a very unhealthy addiction to Excel….

Another suggestion – Posies by Softspots. I wore them all around France for a 2 week trip with tons of walking and they were so comfortable. I bought them specifically for the trip and wore them around the house beforehand and loved them so much I bought another pair just for when the first pair wore out.

I couldnt agree more that shoes can break a trip (in more ways than one!). I spend a lot of time pre-trip picking them out & breaking them in. Keep going back to New Balance. This article is timely, I just had foot surgery, titanium hardware now in right foot – laid up & planning my next vacay. Thanks Sarah!

Travel + shoes + spreadsheet. My 3 favorite things! I think we could be best friends 🙂

Thanks for the extensive list. I know what I like (Merrells and Keen) but my 83 year old mother and I have struggled to find some she likes and don’t hurt her knees and back. We’re just back from Ireland and the ones we got her worked just “OK”. I now have a whole new list for her to look at for our upcoming trip to Alaska!

Great compilation! Something for everyone! The link to the Teva Delavina Boot is to Keens for men! Fyi! I have small feet so nice to see some size 5s! Thanks so much.

      Wide-solers !!

Sarah, this list is amazing – thank you for all the work you put into this and for sharing such an amazing tool.

Yeah, orthotic recommendations! Thank you, Sarah, for these efforts. It must have been a big job as you say, shoes can really break a trip; so very much appreciated.

Have you or anyone you know tried Tieks? The only reviews I can find for them are paid and they seem too good to be true.

You know, I don’t and I haven’t. They look great but I’m not willing/able to take such a big gamble. I’ve contacted them to see if I can get a sample, even just to see them in person, and they said no. So I cannot suggest or recommend them. Take a look at the Payless flats. They’re a great deal.

Save your money. I went to try on Tieks, as our local Nordstrom carried a small selection. I had been eyeing them for over a year online, so when we moved to Naples FL, I discovered a nearby store had some in stock. I was prepared to buy them that day, because I had bought into all the online ads and hype. Biggest let down ever. I wouldn’t even wear them just for airport wear.
So I went back to Clarks, uses my discount for buying and spending so much previously, and picked up a great pair, which sadly I discovered through this blog have been discontinued.
But I did find my sketchers tennis shoes work great as hiking shoes. I failed to pack my hiking boots and we are at our cabin now and they’ve worked out perfectly. In fact I’m leaving them here and buying a new pair for our other home.
